Просмотров 3,4 тыс.7 лет назад
For his 1937 film "Something to Sing About," Cagney hired two of his old vaudeville buddies: Harland Dixon, who had been famous on Broadway but never became a movie star, and Jimmy Boyle, who would later coach Cagney for "Yankee Doodle Dandy"
George White, 1935

From 1918 through the 1930s, George White's "Scandals" were some of the top revues on Broadway. But before he became a producer, White (born Isadore Weitz) was a tap dancer, and in the film "George White's 1935 Scandals," he broke out a soft shoe.

The balance and coordination it took to stand on that top step and one leg too. That would have done me in. Right up there with the Nichols Brothers.

I mourn the fact that entertainment lacks anything like this any longer. Beautiful ball room dancing has found its way back to some small degree through things like Dancing With the Stars, but these wonderfully entertaining dancers just aren’t seen any longer. I think people have no idea of the dexterity or athleticism involved because they make it LOOK so easy through their smooth fluid moves.

THE OLD WAYS OF DOING THINGS NEED TO BE PRESERVED AND PASSED ON TO THE NEXT GENERATIONS. ....THIS VIDEO IS A CLASSIC EXAMPLE...ITS IMPOSSIBLE TO PUT INTO WORDS THE VALUE OF IT AS AN AMERICAN...ONE CAN LEARN HOW THIS NATION WAS SHAPED AND WHAT MAKES IT WHAT IT IS THAT YOUNGER GENERATIONS FORGET.....AND YES THE RACIAL UNDERTONES CANNOT BE IGNORED THAT IS THE STORY OF AMERICA.
